KAVAKA being Transactions of the Mycological Society of India

The official publication of Mycological Society of India is the journal “KAVAKA” the Transactions of the Mycological Society of India (The  word  ‘Kavaka’ represents the Sanskrit word for fungus). Kavaka is an international journal and publishes peer-reviewed, original articles and reviews on all aspects of mycology including conventional and molecular taxonomy phylogeny, diversity, ecology physiology, biochemistry, molecular biology and biotechnology. Prof. C. V. Subramanian, Former Director, Centre for Advanced Studies in Botany, University of Madras was the First Editor and the Volume 1 of Kavaka was published in the year 1973. Kavaka is published regularly without any break. From 1973 till 2013 (Vol. 41), Kavaka was published as Annual issues. From 2014, it is published as Biannual (June & December). Kavaka always remembered the great mycologists of India. The publication of dedicated  45th volume (2015) of journal Kavaka as memoirs of its First Editor, Prof. C. V. Subramanianis in recognition of his significant contributions to the development of Science of investigating fungi as an independent discipline on worldwide basis in general and India in particular. Kavaka has published commemorative issues on the eve of  the centennial year of birth of Late Dr. M. J. Thirumalachar (2014), the first Vice President of Mycological Society of India (Vol.43); Late Professor K. S. Thind (2016) of Panjab University, Chandigarh (Vol.47) and  Late Professor S. B. Saksena (2017) of Dr. Hari Singh Gour University, Sagar, Madhya Pradesh (Vol.48 [2]). All the Life members received a subscribed hard copy of the Journal of KAVAKA till 2015. From 2015 onwards, the journal Kavaka became open access and both online and offline issues are being published. The Journal has a dedicated website (kavaka.fungiindia.co.in) as well. There is free access to everybody including back volumes which are available both on the MSI (fungiindia.co.in) as well as Journal website (kavaka.fungiindia.co.in). Authors can submit the manuscripts online through the online submission portal available on the Home page of MSI website as well as by directly registering on the journal website. The manuscripts submitted to Kavaka are subjected to critical peer review system. The journal Kavaka has a strong Editorial team under the Editor-in-Chief, Professor N.S. Atri, Department of Botany, Panjabi University, Patiala, Punjab, India. The Editor-in-Chief is being assisted by 2 Editors, one Managing Editor and an Editorial Board consisting of eminent mycologists including International scientists in the timely publication of the Journal volumes.
